K120.1 - Norfolk Southern 1932 ARA Box Car with Viking roof
In 1935, the Norfolk Southern purchased 500 (nos. 25000-25499) box cars built to the 1932 ARA standard design. These cars were built by Pullman-Standard Car Manufacturing Company's Richmond, Virginia plant. The cars closely followed the "standard" 1932 ARA versions with square corner 4/4 Dreadnaught ends and Youngstown corrugated doors with early Camel Roller Lift fixtures. One unusual feature was their use of the Viking corrugated steel roof, with its multiple, small corrugations in each panel. These cars served the NS well until it was absorbed in the mergers of the 1960s.
These kits include one-piece cast resin bodies, etched metal trust plates, resin, styrene, and metal details and accurate decals, including the white, red, and yellow emblem shown in the top corner of the photo of the finished model. Trucks and couplers not included. Accurate trucks are available from Tahoe Model Works (shown on model above.)
